Talking Roby the Robot, also known as Talking Roby Celik the Robot, was an interactive-based app created by Outfit7 and was the fifth app in the Talking Friends series. It was released on 27 October 2010, and was removed most likely due to copyright issues from Arçelik, an appliance manufacturer whose mascot looks just like Roby.

How to Play[]

  • Type a word or a sentence and Roby will speak it.
  • Talk to Roby and he will repeat your words with his robotic voice.
  • Poke Roby in the head, body or arms and watch his reactions.
  • Pet him and he will like it.
  • Shake your device and see how Roby keeps his balance.
  • Press buttons to see Roby dance.

Features[]

  • You can change Roby's colour to silver with blue eyes, inspired by Celik (a robot with similar design, which is a mascot of the Turkish household appliances company Arçelik).

Copyright issues[]

While the model of Roby sourced from TurboSquid, the character itself was none other than a recolour of an existing trademarked character[1] from the Turkish appliance manufacturer Arçelik. It is commonly believed that this is the reason that the app was taken down so quickly. It is also very possible that this was the situation, due to Outfit7's rising popularity among apps and app fans.

The link to the original Roby model can be found here.

Anti-piracy protection[]

Like most of Outfit7's early apps, such as Talking Rex the Dinosaur and Talking Baby Hippo, this app had anti-piracy protection. If the app is detected to be pirated and not legitimately not purchased, Roby's voice will become a bizarre distorted voice. The voice is loud and incredibly muffled, being very abnormal and eerie. This also applies to the keyboard text-to-speech voice, which has the same result. This is an especially common occurrence in many Android APKs, as Roby's game was the most commonly pirated at it's time. The anti-piracy protection was removed in version 1.1.7.

Trivia[]

  • Roby Dance 1 Music is shortened version of Dalaj Eegol/Recycleman - Slovenija Dala Je Gol Music. That's because the song was relatively new, and Samo Login asked permission to use it.
  • Originally, this app costed $0.99 on the Google Play Store.
  • Originally, the iOS version of this app was a free download on the App Store.
  • In the game files, it is possible to find Talking Rex game buttons because it possibly used the same project file for Talking Rex the Dinosaur.
  • You can't buy in app purchases on both versions due to the server being off.
  • This app is the most common of Outfit7 to have pirated versions.
  • The sound of the air horn is called airhorn.wav by guitarguy1985, It was uploaded to Freesound on December 15, 2008, and it can be found here. It's also used in Talking Tom & Ben News.
  • Roby's dance in the game is similar to Çelik's dance in Arçelik's "Arçelik Demek Yenilik Demek" commercial.
  • You can change Roby's colour to silver. To do it on iOS, You have to go to the settings app then scroll to Talking Roby and turn on silver mode. The same thing can be done on a device Android 4.4 and lower, but to do it on Android 5+, you have to change your device's language to Turkish.
