Repeats everything you say with his baby voice
— Outfit7 website[1]

Talking Baby Hippo is an interaction-based video game app developed by Outfit7 and originally released for iOS devices on July 16, 2010. It is the first in many successors to Talking Tom Cat, which released only a month prior, and the second app in the then recently formed Talking Tom & Friends franchise. Developed by a small Slovenian team of friends around Talking Tom Cat's release, the app was created in seemingly mere weeks to help aid the newfound success of its predecessor, and followed an extremely similar production, likewise having been created from 3D models purchased from the website TurboSquid, a pattern the series would follow up until the release of Talking Ben the Dog in 2011.

The app features a talking infant hippopotamus, named Baby Hippo, whose main feature is to repeat words the user says into the microphone with a high-pitched helium voice.

Compared to most other of Outfit7's apps, which were delisted in late 2014 as part of the series' reboot, this app was redesigned and remained on the App Store and Talking Tom & Friends website until 2017 for unknown reasons.[2]

Trivia[]

  • In the app's IPA files, it is possible to find an unused audio that suggests the character's name could be "Sibby." [citation needed]
  • The Android version of the app has anti-piracy features, which will activate if the app detects the user does not own the app from their respective app store. When active, Baby Hippo will have a bizarre distorted voice which makes it useless to talk to him.
  • On old versions of the app, the app would need to access your call systems.
  • Originally, the iPad version of the app costed $2.99 USD on the Apple App Store.[1].
  • This is the only app by Outfit7 to have Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian languages.
