Bongo & McGillicuddy is a fictional TV show that regularly appears in Talking Tom and Friends. It is a long-running award-winning comedy cartoon revolving around a pair of loose cannon cops named Bongo (a human), and McGillicuddy (an orangutan/ape), who played by their own rules when out on the streets catching criminals, including, but not limited to, Bongo's number one enemy, Doctor Technology. Their frequent breaking of protocol almost always annoys the old Police Chief Buzzcut.

Hank regularly watches and references this show throughout the series, and has said that it’s been his favourite show ever since he was little. He has become such a dedicated fan to the extent of writing an extensive yet unofficial fan guide detailing every single episode. When he found out that the show was going to be cancelled, he used a machine by Ben to enter their world and save them from quitting the police force. Although it turns out to be just a dream, Bongo and McGillicuddy often return the favor to Hank, whether it be saving the world from the Tooniverse’s most dangerous villain, Kaptain Kriminal, or helping Hank snap out of his hatred of the official B&M mobile game, although they don’t always take place in Hank’s mind too.

Trivia[]

  • In Hank's New Job, When Ben watches Banana Bandit, the show title in the title card is misspelt [1]
  • It is unknown whatever happened to the show after the end of "Bye, Bye, Bongo!", as the events turn out to be a dream, but Hank still had the Honorary Detective Badge and Teleporting Toothbrush on him. Perhaps the show really did end, or it went on a hiatus. Either way, it is safe to confirm that the franchise itself hasn’t come down with the show, as there are reruns, as evidenced by the repeat of "Best Friends" in "Hank's TV Party", and still merchandise, such as the office exists.
  • In "Bye, Bye, Bongo", Hank questions Doctor Technology as to why his teeth are more yellow than his appearances in Seasons 4, 6, and 15, which, adding up with Hank saying he’s wanted to make an episode himself since he was little, confirms that the show is a long-runner. How many seasons it lasted for is officially unknown, but the number of seasons closest to being plausible are 16, if Technology being the main antagonist is to be believed.
  • Both of the titular characters represent Tom and Ben in some way:
    • McGillicuddy - Tom is like McGillicuddy because they both are silly and funny.
    • Bongo - Ben is like Bongo because they both work hard and are usually the straight men to their partners.
  • This is one of the key aspects of the show that is 2D-animated (presumably done with something like Flash). This is to emphasise how cartoony it is while being distinguishable from the CGI animation that the ‘real world’ has; Bongo and McGillycuddy even remain 2D when they appear in the ‘real world’.
    • However, it isn’t exactly the first, as evidenced by the close up of the fly in "The Contest".
  • The show also has a backwards counterpart in the Parallel Universe named "McGillicuddy & Bongo". Not much is known or shown, but it’s apparent given its ‘opposite’ nature that McGillicuddy has our Bongo’s personality and actually talks in his voice, whereas this Bongo has our McGillicuddy’s personality and only talks in orangutan grunts.
  • The "Christmas Special that Everyone hates" is a reference to the Star Wars Christmas Special which most of the fandom dislikes too.
  • The show also has a video game for mobile devices which lots of people love playing, even though it doesn’t exactly have the same quality as the show.
